In Praise of Shadows22 January 2009 - 6 May 2009 This exhibition will bring together key works by eight contemporary artists from seven different countries, and two master filmmakers from the first half of the 20th century. "In Praise of Shadows" will be displayed at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin from November 5, 2008 to January 4, 2009, and after the exhibition in Istanbul Modern, travel to the Benaki Museum in Athens from May 22 to July 26, 2009. "In Praise of Shadows" is curated by Paolo Colombo, currently the Art Advisor at Istanbul Modern. "In Praise of Shadows" is an exhibition on shadows, shadow theatre and silhouettes, based on old and contemporary folk tales and on simple narratives expressed with economy of means. It is a wide-spectrum exhibition that speaks to everyone, not only the traditional art public, but also families, children, a wide non-specialized audience, and spectators who are interested in the history of cinema, animation, and shadow theatre. This exhibition will explore the formal analogies and the conceptual references that a new narrative spirit in contemporary art has with shadow plays and, conversely, the influence this traditional art form has had on the world of contemporary art in recent years. Istanbul Modern is located in Karakoy,on the European side of Istanbul. Source: http://www.istanbulmodern.org/en/f_index.html |
