UEFA Cup Final 2009, May 20th 2009

Domestic pride will be at stake in Europe when Ukrainian and German clubs battle against each other in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in first-leg matches on Thursday. 

Ukrainian powerhouses Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk meet for the right to play the final in Istanbul on May 20 against the winner of the encounter between German rivals Werder Bremen and SV Hamburg.

The match in Bremen is the second of four duels between the two northern rivals - only some 100 kilometers apart - within 19 days.
But Hamburg won't mind if they repeat last Wednesday's 1-1 score after regular time as a tie would be a good result to take back home for next week's second leg. more »

Rustem Pasha Mosque

The Rustem Pasha Mosque was designed by Ottoman imperial architect Mimar Sinan for Grand Vizier Damat Rustem Pasha(husband of one of the daughters of Suleiman the Magnificent, Princess Mihrimah). Its building took place from 1561 to 1563
The mosque was built on a high terrace over a complex of vaulted shops, whose rents were intended to financially support the mosque complex. Narrow, twisting interior flights of steps in the corners give access to a spacious courtyard. The mosque has a double porch with five domed bays, from which projects a deep and low roof supported by a row of columns. more »
